I am interested in methods for automated controller design. The subject of my research is the controller design according to constraints placed on input variables of the controled system. It is often difficult to design controller on the real system in the industry as it usually blocks normal operation of the system during the tuning and using a wrong controller may damage the system. The described method solves this problem as the only connection with the reality during the design is through the data recorded from the real system. A model of the controlled system is identified from the measured data and it is then used to design the LQG controller. The controller is tuned to achieve optimal performance while keeping the constraints. The identified model is known including uncertainty, e.g. if there is few identification data. The controller tuning considers this kind of uncertainty in order perform well when connected to the real system.
The methods used for the controller design are LQG control, Bayesian statistics, Monte Carlo, and optimization.
